PlayStation has announced the new rotation of games coming to PlayStation Plus on June 18, and there are some standouts. Strategy fans have a lot to look forward to with the addition of Anno 1880 and Crusader Kings III, and Far Cry 4 is always a fun time for fans of the Ubisoft open-world FPS series. But the game that might be the most enticing is Monster Hunter Rise, the most recent entry in Capcom’s action RPG series.
If you, like me, have spent years thinking about playing a Monster Hunter game but never actually doing it, then Rise’s addition comes at the perfect time. Just this month, Monster Hunter Wilds—the next entry coming in 2025—showed off a glamorous trailer during Summer Game Fest. That new look at Wilds re-ignited my interest in the series and Capcom took that opportunity to give people like me an easy in through PS Plus.
While the game might be a little tough to get into as a newcomer, the price of free certainly makes it feel easier. That charm of Monster Hunter has always been (according to people who actually play it) the beautiful worlds oozing detail, the ability to play with friends, and the signature giant monster fights. That is enough to sell me ,and with some DNA in common with Capcom’s other action RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2—a game I am absolutely obsessed with—I think a perfect storm is brewing that will get me into the series ahead of Wilds. (Just wait until she encounters the god-awful UI and lack of tutorials, eh readers? - Wise Ed)
What’s coming to PS Plus in June 2024?
Of course, for those who still aren’t up for Monster Hunter, this month’s offering has plenty more to dig into. Here’s the full list.
- Monster Hunter Rise | PS4, PS5
- Football Manager 2024 | PS5
- Crusader Kings III | PS5
- Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame 6 | PS4, PS5
- After Us | PS5
- Anno 1800 | PS5
- Police Simulator: Patrol Officers | PS4, PS5
- Far Cry 4 | PS4
- LEGO The Hobbit | PS4
- LEGO The Incredibles | PS4
There are also three more PlayStation classics and one PS VR2 title coming to the more expensive Premium tier:
- LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy | PS4, PS5
- Ghosthunter | PS4, PS5
- Daxter | PS4, PS5
- Kayak VR: Mirage | PS VR2
That’s a pretty good collection, but if you do have the Premium tier subscription, I highly suggest giving PSP adventure Daxter a whirl, it’s a charming spinoff with more depth than you would expect at first.
